Simon joined BPP University College of Professional Studies as Associate Dean of Learning & Teaching (Teaching Enhancement) in July 2011.

Simon was previously part of the Teaching and Learning Centre at the London School of Economics where he was an Educational Developer (Academic Staff Development). Serving as art of the teaching team for the PGCertHE programme and providing  individual support to teachers and course developers. 

Prior to joining the LSE Simon was Director of Teaching and Learning at the College of Education, Massey University, working with both academic and general staff to enhance the quality of the student learning experience through effective course design, learner support and the use of e-learning. He was a member of the University Learning & Teaching Strategy Group, University Learning & Teaching Committee and is responsible for providing College focused resources and opportunities for professional development in teaching and e-learning.

Research & Development Interests

Simon is an educational developer with specialist interests in learning design and educational technologies. His main research interests are in the impact of online social networking tools on cultural interactions and on the relationship between the values of academe in knowledge creation and the impact of technology on sustaining those values in learners.

Simon is currently working on a number of frameworks to support academic engagement with technology. These include the DiAL-e Framework (Digital Artifacts for Learner Engagement) http://www.dial-e.net and the SOLE model of learning design (http://spatkinson.wordpress.com)
